StoryMap: “Poesías e historias del Caribe: Mapping Caribbean women poets in the PALABRA Archive”
This project is an ArcGIS Story Map of Caribbean women poets present in the PALABRAS Archive. The narrative of the installation follows an in-depth look into four countries: Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Haiti. With photographs, audio recordings and maps, the installation showcases poem excerpts that delve into the cultural struggles of heritage, identity and colonial history of the Caribbean region.
StoryMap: “Inauguration Speeches by Fidel Castro 1960-1994”
This project is based on the LANIC Castro Speech Data Base which offers 2,396 speeches and interviews given by Fidel Castro from 1959 to 1996. The focus of this StoryMap is only on 78 speeches given by Castro when inaugurating buildings during his time leading the revolution. With that dataset, I explored the significance of these specific buildings to the development of Cuba and the furthering of Castro’s regime by asking what influenced Castro’s decision on which inaugurations to commemorate and, more generally, how digital tools could help to bridge the gap between ideas and the built environment.
StoryMap: "In Our Own Image: Representations of the Self Through Historical & Modern Photography”
This project was made in collaboration with my classmates of INF 386E Planning and Understanding Exhibits course, in particular with Misha Collins who designed this StoryMap with me. The main theme of this exhibit was to compare the ways historical and modern photography tell a story of self-representation through the editing of photos, the art of posing, the use of props, and the ties to relationships in the subject matter of the photographs. This digital exhibit aimed to be a translation of the physical exhibit with an additional educational component.
